Making connections (lots and lots of them....)

Background: Recently I explained to Lucas that some mountains are so high that there is snow on them even in the summer. Mom and dad have even hiked on such mountains.  It may also be worth mentioning that in the wintertime he has been told that you shouldn't eat snow because dogs might have peed on it.

Tonight at bedtime we read Curious George "Lost in the Big City", and as always Lucas pointed out the Statue of Liberty on one of the pages. A while ago we talked about how tall Lady Liberty is (why, by the way, are all kids so fascinated by her?). Lucas connected her height with the weeks-ago conversation about mountains:

L: She is tall, and there is always snow on her
D: Well, she's not really THAT tall. She's not as tall as a mountain
L: How tall are the mountains that you and mama hiked on.
D: Oh, probably 14,000 feet or so.
L: Was there snow on them?
D: Yes, there was.
L: Did you walk on the snow?
D: Yes, a few times we did
L: Did you eat the snow?
D: No! It was there all year, so it was dirty snow. It wouldn't be safe to eat it
L: [long, thoughtful pause] Mountain goats might have peed on it.

We post these things because they are funny, but it is also really cool to see him putting about 6 different things he's learned together in his head to come up with something like this.
