River Kids

This summer Luke and I enrolled in River Kids through parks & rec. You ride kayaks & paddle boats and go on little hikes near the river, and a teacher reads river-themed stories and gets you started on river-related crafts. Pretty cool. Now that it's over, I asked Luke about it today.

D: Did you like River Kids?
L: Yeah! Can we do River Kids again sometime?
D: Sure! We could sign up again next year. [pause] Which part of River Kids did you like best?
L: Snack!
D: [flabbergasted] Do you remember what snack was?
L: Goldfish!

We saw a whole swan family with baby cygnets on a river island, turtles sunning themselves on rocks in the river, a butterfly garden, and a heron; and on the one day mama brought him he got to go fishing and caught his first fish ever (5, actually). But what he really remembers is the handful of goldfish crackers the teacher served him on a napkin.
