Seagulls are different

So said Lucas, as we watched them today hovering in the driving wind at the edge of the Petoskey beach, scanning the waves for whatever it is that they eat. I wondered what he was comparing them to.

D: Different from what?
L: That one has spots.

I had never looked that closely at seagulls but he was right; they were all different. One had a million spots around his neck, another was almost grey, and the rest were mostly white with grey heads.

I think the coloring is due to maturity levels. Smart of him to notice!
