Fish

Lucas caught a trout yesterday, and we took it home and ate it. He caught it from a fishing pool at Grand Haven's salmon festival, and one of the men organizing it (it was put on by some sort of sport fisher's association) gutted and cleaned it for us. Lucas was very excited about it but also a little troubled. (Mom and dad can't say we were totally ok with the conditions the trout lived and died under either; we came across the kid fishing area when we went down to the boardwalk yesterday in search of face painting and turtle pools.)

Anyhow, here is Lucas's account of the experience:

"I caught a fish and we ate it. It was delicious! It flopped around on the grass and it almost got back in the pool. It wasn't very happy about that, but it can't talk. It only speaks fish language. It speaks in dark bubbles under the water."

I agree with Lucas on this one - it's enough to make me never eat fish again.
