The corrupting influence of TV starts now

I filled Lucas's bath tonight but had to finish up something in the kitchen before I could take off his clothes and get him into the bathtub. He stayed in the bathroom and pretty soon I heard him giggling all the way from the kitchen. It sounded suspicious.
When he asked, I had to admit that yes, it was a little bit silly; but please don't do it again.

Later on the changing table he noticed that my shirt cuffs were wet and asked why. "Well, somebody got into the bathtub with his clothes on and I had to take them off while he was still in there. Do you know who did that?" Lucas then explained to me that Mr. Noodle on Elmo had gotten into the bathtub with his clothes on.

We don't watch much TV with him, but on our flights to see Grandma Jackie in San Diego last month we let him watch some videos on our iPhones. Now that I think about it, I do remember that at one point when he was watching the videos he was cackling up a storm, but at the time I hadn't seen what he was watching. Apparently (mama confirmed this for me when she got home from her meeting later tonight) there is an episode of Elmo about taking a bath in which Mr. Noodle gets into the bathtub with his clothes on.

Do you still think little boys should watch TV, grandmas?

Sure, they can watch with their parents so the content can be discussed.

Oh? Or maybe with their grandparents?

Sure, though Elmo might not be this grandma's first choice!

The content should indeed be often discussed, but I can imagine that making Lucas promise NOT to do every specific thing he sees might be an awful lot like telling someone not to think of a purple elephant...

A matter of means and opportunity.

Dang it, now I can't get purple elephants out of my head...
