If I get in trouble the cat should too!

Since Lucas knows that he gets a talking-to when he breaks the rules, he expects the same treatment for others. Jackson, for example.

Today Lucas was bothering Jackson a little and eventually Jackson gave him a little bite. It's just his warning bite, and it doesn't actually hurt, but it upsets Lucas quite a bit. He seems to feel betrayed by his kitty; doesn't he love me???

So Lucas rushed over to me crying -- or, more accurately, acting like he was crying -- and exclaimed: "Jackson bit me!"

D: Oh I'm sorry honey. He shouldn't do that! [pause] Were you getting in Jackson's space?
L: Yeah.
D: Well, maybe next time you shouldn't do that. But he still shouldn't bite. We don't bite people, ever.
L: Talk to him!

So I walked over to Jackson on the couch, and very earnestly explained that he mustn't bite people and that instead he should use his words -- err, say "meow" or something -- when Lucas is in his space. Lucas watched the whole exchange very intently. He seemed satisfied, but a couple of minutes after we were done he announced, "Mama talk to him too!" He then ran over to the kitchen to find mama and demanded, "Mama, talk to Jackson!"
