Aware of the world

It is pretty amazing how Luke completely gets things these days. A year ago you couldn't really be sure he understood "no", and a couple of months ago it was hard to tell whether he really understood anything beyond the subject-verb-object level ("Lucas pat Jackson!"). A dialogue to illustrate:

When we got home tonight we all sat on the couch and Jill and I quizzed Lucas about dinner. Unbeknownst to him, we had ordered pizza.

D: Lucas, can you guess what we're having for dinner?
L: (thinks) Tacos!
J: No, but that's a really good guess, Lucas.
D: Guess again. What could we be having for dinner?
L: (thinks) Pasta!
D: No, we had pasta last night, but that's close. It starts with a "P"
L: (thinking)
J: What do we eat for dinner that starts with a "P" sound?
L: Pasta!
D: No, that starts with "P", but remember that we had it for dinner last night.
L: (thinks)
D: We're having pizza!
L: (smiles) Pizza store?
J: We're not going to the pizza store, but we ordered it from them and they're going to bring it to our house.
L: Wallet? Money?
D: That's right! We'll get money from our wallet to pay them.
L: (smiles)

He was very excited about our pizza and could hardly wait for the pizza man to arrive. I went out to the carport for a minute and when I came back and he heard me open the door he asked "pizza man?" He even washed his hands for dinner without a fuss. When it finally arrived he was crazy about it. It was also pretty healthy; we got spinach, potatoes, and roasted garlic for the toppings.

We need to order out more often!

Yes -- ordering out is good for the whole family!!!!!!!!!!!!
(and no, that's not a comment about your cooking! I just think you deserve to take it easy sometimes.)
