Progress Report

Our little guy is three months old today. He has had a great month, and is now able to do many, many things that he couldn't do a month ago, like:

  • Smile!
  • Coo happily or grumpily depending on his mood
  • Carry on a baby conversation with us (see video, "Lucas discussing superbottles" to the right)
  • Giggle (a little; see video, "giggling and dancing" to the right)
  • Keep his head up when pulled up by his arms
  • Track us (or the kitty) as we walk by
  • Take a long look at other babies (this is breaking news in the last day!)
  • Pick up objects and wave them around (video: "Lucas waving a spoon")
  • Kick his baby gym to make the motion-activated music start again
  • Go four hours between (much-larger) daytime bottles
  • Go as long as 8 1/2 hours between bottles at night

He seems to have excellent head control for his age, and is overall pretty strong. We're not sure how much he weighs and he's not due back at the doc's for a month, but he's probably at or near 15 pounds. His size 3 months clothes are pretty much done.

David has been giving Lucas herb lessons every evening; he studies a different herb from the garden every night. In this picture they're discussing lavender. Luke likes smelling the plants (especially after you've rubbed them between your fingers to bring out the smell) and grabbing them.

I've probably said this before, but I don't know how we got so lucky and ended up with a happy, smiley baby that does everything he's supposed to without running his parents ragged. (Shall I qualify that with a "yet"?) He still hates getting into his carseat, and of course there are the unexplained episodes of bursting into an inconsolable cry every once in a while. But overall we are thanking our lucky stars.
