Puppy's continuing adventures

Dad put Lucas and Joshua in the car yesterday morning and went back indoors to fetch some stuff, including his cappuccino in his favorite ceramic travel mug. There was really a lot of stuff (how much stuff do kids need for daycare? oh, right, on Monday the answer is a lot), so I had to set my cup down on the gas grill before I could manage to lock the back door while holding all the bags. Only the gas grill has a cover that isn't totally even and CRASH the favorite ceramic cup is no more. I yelled!

Lucas (and probably Joshua!) heard me in the car and seemed alarmed when I returned.  I explained what happened and then Lucas launched into a puppy story.

"Puppy had a favorite dog dish.  It says 'I LOVE DOGS' on it.  But it broke.  He put it on a wobbly table -- it was wet and the dish slid right off and it broke.  So now puppy has to use an old dish that is dusty. He eats his dog food from the dusty dish."

A pattern is emerging.  Puppy stories are a form of therapy that Lucas uses to process traumatic events in his life, such as hearing his dad unexpectedly let out a blood-curdling yell while he is strapped in his carseat with his brother.
