Lucas and I looked at Zoom (by Istvan Banyai) tonight. Each page zooms farther and farther out from the preceding scene, until the last page shows the earth as a little white dot.
L: What's "Earth"?
J: It's the planet we live on.
L: It's a planet? Is it really hot? [He's been learning from his dad about how hot stars are.] Ow, the Earth is hot! [does a little dance]
J: Everything you see around us is on Earth. Our house is on Earth, the trees are on Earth, the cities are on Earth, China is on Earth...
L: (chimes in) North America is on Earth, Wild Swan Theater is on Earth, all the buildings are on Earth, Jax is on Earth!
J: Exactly! And do you know what people on earth are called?
L: No, tell me!
J: Earthlings.
L: Is Jax an Earthling?
He was quite happy that Jackson is considered an Earthling, too.
