Connections

At bathtime we talked about dinosaurs. Lucas wondered if dinosaurs eat people. I feel like we've had this conversation a million times.
D: Honey, the dinosaurs lived a long time before there were any people.
L: Before you?
D: Yes, even before me. There were no people anywhere.

Fast forward to bedtime, when our last story was The Hall of Beasts. The story is about an old inn where an artist had painted an amazing animal mural on the walls. "The animals must never be abandoned," the artist warned, "or they will vanish at the first light of day." We had to talk a lot about what "abandoned" meant after the story was over. "It means the people all went away and the animals were left alone."

In the middle of his songs, Lucas popped up in bed and announced: "Hey, the dinosaurs were abandoned!" Clever boy.
