Misbehavior

A couple of weeks ago Lucas ripped some flowers out of the flowerboxes at daycare. He had already been warned not to do it, but he did it anyway. This episode of defiance was part of a rash of very naughty behavior over the past couple of weeks (including some hitting and even one biting incident, which seemed to surprise the little angel himself). When we asked him why he did it he said "they were dumb flowers!" Grrr.

We guilt tripped him heavily (his latest trick is to cover his ears while we chastise him, which would exasperate us to no end if it weren't also a reassuring sign that he has a conscience), and the next morning dad took Lucas to the Wednesday farmer's market to buy some replacement flowers. He was big man on campus the whole ride in to daycare from the market, explaining very confidently how he'd express his remorse and reassure everyone what a valuable lesson he'd learned. When he was actually face-to-face with his teachers, though, he buried his head in my leg and barely got out "I sorry!" The teachers appreciated it and said they'd plant the flowers with him during outdoor playtime.

The point of this story is that there is a cute picture that goes with it and, since the blog tends to present a skewed sample of Lucas's cutest behavior, that he sometimes gets in trouble.

I'm wondering where he would have heard flowers referred to as "dumb".

Oh, lots of things are "dumb" according to Lucas lately. It's just a favorite new word that makes him feel like one of the big kids
