Chef

Several weeks ago Lucas planted peas in our yard. They aren't going to win the blue ribbon at the county fair, but tonight daddy and Luke harvested a few of them. I think we got 15 peas, mostly underripe. But we grew them!

We brought them inside and I set up Luke's stepladder in the kitchen. He washed them off in a strainer and then the real fun began: I let Lucas cook them himself!

First he scooped some butter into our tiniest saucepan, I turned the stove on, and he watched it melt. Then he dumped his clean peas into the saucepan and stirred them over the heat (yes grandmas under very close supervision!). Finally he added a pinch of salt. He loved all 15 of them!

At bedtime I reviewed everything we had done this evening:

D: And we played the drums, and we wrote letters with shaving cream in the bathtub, and we cooked our peas together --
L: [Interrupting] I cooked the peas. I was the chef!
