Tonight mom set him up to draw on the footstool in the living room while we cooked dinner together. Later on, we both noticed that he had taken a couch cushion off the couch, and when mom came out of the kitchen he asked her to help put it back. We had no idea what he was doing with the cushion off, but dinner was almost ready so Jill just helped him with the cushion and then took him to the bathroom to wash hands.
Later tonight, Jill turned the couch cushion over and discovered what Luke had been up to:

Postscript: Dad told this story to a colleague, who immediately responded: "Oh, so now he's learned he can fool the authorities!" Ooops, good point; we need to follow up to let him know that in the end the authorities are omniscient. Mom told it to one of Luke's teachers, and she suggested that we should ask Luke to help us clean the ink off.
So tonight Daddy confronted Luke with his crime. We did our best to clean it off together, and then we took the cover off the cushion and dad applied Spray 'n Wash. Lesson learned, we hope!

He didn't actually do any drawing ON the couch.
Yes, he did. The photo shows the back of the couch cushion. Apparently at some point while we were both in the kitchen he took his paper over to the couch to work on his drawing. When he got ink on the couch cushion he tried to turn it over to hide the damage.
Well, now at least he knows where NOT to hide the bodies...
