Reporting from Grandma Sally's, we just saw a Barred Owl outside the window while we were eating breakfast. Mommy saw it landing in one of the trees in grandma's front yard.
J: Look! Out the window. There's an owl in the tree!
L: Nervous!
D: Don't worry sweetie, it's outside.
We watched it from the window for a minute and then it dove down from the tree towards the ground. We thought it had spotted a squirrel snack. Luke and Daddy went out onto the front porch to look for it and it turns out it had landed on grandma's bird bath. We saw it dunk its head and splash water all over its body with its wings. It was really neat.
Eventually the owl flew back up into the tree and all three of us walked out onto the driveway to look for it. We got right underneath it and watched it for a few seconds. We were trying to be quiet but Luke got pretty excited and he blurted out "owl!" The owl looked down at us and flew across the street into the big tree in the neighbor's yard. We could still see it over there but it was pretty far away.
When grandma Sally woke up a half hour later Luke had to tell her. It was literally the first thing out of his mouth when she came out to the dining room.
L: Saw an owl, grandma!
S: You saw an owl?
L: Splash around in there!
p.s. For those keeping score, a barred owl is the same type of owl that Luke sponsored at the Science Center.
