I thought kids don't get sick in the summertime!!!!

Herpangina virus. A bunch of kids got it at daycare, and the doctor's office says it's all over town. Jill had just gotten home around 3:15 to get our stuff together for the trip to Megan's house this weekend when daycare called to say that Luke had come down with it too.

He was very, very disappointed that we had to cancel the trip. Mama explained why we couldn't go -- "you're sick, and if we went to Megan's you'd make her sick too" -- and he was very unhappy but seemed to understand. He looked pretty tired and uncomfortable when mama picked him up. They pulled up in our driveway right after daddy had parked his bike in the carport. I opened the door and the first words out of his mouth were, "I'm sick." I picked him up and he threw his arms around my neck and snuggled into my shoulder.

We gave him some Motrin and then he read books on the guest room bed with mama while daddy went to the store to buy apple juice and anything else we thought might help keep him hydrated. He ended up eating a great dinner, and between that and the Motrin he really staged a comeback and had a great time in the bathtub with daddy. When mommy took him out of the tub he exclaimed: "I feel better mama! Go see Megan?" Sorry, little boy.

Mama called grandma S. to tell her that we couldn't come, and Luke appealed to her over the phone. "Grandma, come see Megan?"

Poor, poor, little boy.

Tell Lucas that Grandma J. is sorry he's sick again - poor little guy! Hope he's well soon.
