Babysitter

Luke had a new babysitter tonight.  Auntie K defended her dissertation today (hooray, Auntie K!) and mom and dad went out to celebrate with her.

Luke likes the babysitters but doesn't like the part where mom and dad go out.  He was particularly peeved that we were going out to see Auntie K without him.

D: Mommy will put you to bed, and then mommy and daddy will go out to see Auntie K while Cassandra stays with you.

L: [Fearstruck] Luke go too!  Luke see Tistin too!

D: It will be too late.  It will be after you're already asleep.

L: Luke go too!  Luke go too!

When Cassandra showed up Luke entered his performance mode, throwing books gleefully, banging his toys extra loud, and hopping madly like a kangaroo during a reading of Marsupial Sue.  He did seem to like her though.  They played some excellent hide-and-seek together, and Cassandra was even willing to join in a puppet show at dinner time to distract him from his angst about the evening plans.  (She played the fish, while daddy played the pig.  They said they were upset about mommy and daddy going out too, but Cassandra said she'd watch them.)

Bedtime was not easy; he tossed and turned and complained and sang for an hour before he went to sleep.  (The highlight came when he held puppy up in the air in his crib, pointed at puppy's feet, and said "this piggy to market, this piggy 'wee wee wee wee all way home!'".)  Eventually mom got him to sleep, and Cassandra never heard a peep from him while we were gone.

Congratulations to Kristin! And bravo for Cassandra, sounds like she's a keeper.
